Here for sale is a used Olds super tenor trombone with small shank. The instrument has a gold brass bell.
About the history of this great instrument:
- Frank Ellsworth (F.E.) Olds was born in Medina, New York in 1861.
- After working for Conn for some time, he began selling trombones in his own business in 1912.
- Among Olds’ best-known collaborators were Foster Reynolds and Zig Kanstul, both of whom were also successful instrument makers under their own names.
- Among the most popular Olds trombone models are the “Recording” “Super” “Opera” and the “P-22”.
- The instrument offered here was built in 1979 and freshly overhauled by us.
- What makes this professional Olds trombone stands out:
- Super punchy, snotty trombone sound, great for big band or funk.
- Extremely rare hammered surface. Olds actually only offered this on the “Military” model. This was probably a custom design.
- The train runs well . Minimal abrasion.
- This instrument has a tapered pull with .485″/12.32mm//.500″/12.7mm S- bore. The bell is Ø 7.5″ (191mm)
- Gold brass bell, nickel silver outer slide.
- As a lubricant, I recommend Slide-O-Mix Rapid Comfort for these Olds.
- The serial number is A47XXX, 1979.
Condition of these Olds after intensive examination:
- The train runs well . Some abrasion.
- The tuning slide is freely movable
- Stop felt is present.
- Rubber stopper is present.
- The instrument is in good condition and immediately optimal playable.
- The varnish is well preserved. The bell is hammered, the tuning slide is satin.
- The grip points are also in good condition.
- The instrument was recently overhauled by us and is now immediately optimally playable.
I am a professional musician myself and have tested this trombone intensively and found it to be in perfect condition. That is why we also give 2 years warranty.
Included accessories:
- The instrument comes with the original Olds case. The carrying handle is missing.
Recommendation from me as a professional musician:
- The Super is one of the best jazz instruments, in no way inferior to King, Conn, etc. in terms of craftsmanship and sound.
- As a lubricant for these Olds recommend the Yamaha Slide Lubricant or Slide-O-Mix Rapid Comfort.
- The instrument should be cleaned regularly from the inside, e.g. with a Reka care set.
