For sale here is a used Olds Super tenor trombone with a small shank. The instrument has a gold brass bell.
About the history of this great instrument:
Frank Ellsworth (FE) Olds was born in Medina, New York in 1861.
After working for Conn for some time, he began selling trombones in his own business in 1912.
Among the most famous Olds employees were Foster Reynolds and Zig Kanstul, both of whom were successful instrument makers under their own names.
The most popular Olds trombone models include the "Recording", "Super", "Opera" and the "P-22".
The instrument offered here was built in 1979 and has recently been overhauled by us.
What distinguishes this professional Olds trombone:
- Super punchy, snotty trombone sound, great for big band or funk.
- Extremely rare hammered surface. Olds actually only offered this on the "Military" model. This was probably a custom order.
- The train runs well. Minimal wear.
- This instrument has a conical slide with .485"/12.32mm//.500"/12.7mm S-bore. The bell is Ø 7.5" (191mm)
- Gold brass bell, nickel silver outer slide.
- As a lubricant I recommend Olds Slide-O-Mix Rapid Comfort.
- The serial number is A47XXX, 1979.
Condition of this Olds after intensive inspection:
- The train runs well. Some wear.
- The tuning slide is freely movable
- Stop felt is available.
- Rubber stopper is available.
- The instrument is in good condition and can be played immediately.
- The varnish is in good condition. The bell is hammered and the tuning slide is satin finished.
- The handles are also in good condition.
- The instrument was recently overhauled by us and is now perfectly playable.

- The instrument comes with the original Olds case. The carrying handle is missing.
Recommendation from me as a professional musician:
- The Super is one of the best jazz instruments, and its craftsmanship and sound are in no way inferior to those of King, Conn, etc.
- For these Olds I recommend Yamaha Slide Lubricant or Slide-O-Mix Rapid Comfort as lubricants.
- The instrument should be cleaned regularly from the inside, e.g. with a Reka care set.
